My name is Jatuporn,
but everyone calls me Jum.

I grew up in Yantakhao, a small town in Southern Thailand. From a young age, I was the one grinding curry pastes for our family dinner - fresh, by hand, in a stone pestle and mortar.

My recipes come from my mother and my grandmother. They were never written down. They were learned by doing, by watching, by tasting. When I moved to the UK in 1992, I wanted my children to stay connected to their Thai heritage through food - the real thing, not a version of it.

That wish became Mae Jum. "Mae" means mother in Thai.

And so, the Mae Jum story began. Rooted in love, tradition, and the belief that everyone deserves to experience the true taste of Thailand and healing powers of Thai cuisine.

Our Journey

Over the course of eight months, I traveled back and forth to Thailand, immersing myself in the world of food production. I visited suppliers, producers, and farmers, determined to stay true to Mae Jum's mission of authenticity while upholding the highest standards of quality and safety.

After much effort, I finally connected with a producer who truly understood my vision and agreed to collaborate with me.

With modern stone-grounding techniques, I launched my original 6 Thai curry pastes, enough in each pack to make up to 8 servings! Over the years I have expanded my collection to include more Thai curries across different regions of Thailand as well as signature soups and stir frys.

The journey was more challenging than I anticipated at the start, but with the unwavering support of my family, Mae Jum became a reality.

Our Pastes

We take pride in creating our curry pastes using stone grinding techniques, made with 100% natural ingredients, all carefully sourced from Thailand. Crafted from traditional family recipes handed down from my mother, reflecting the style of Southern Thai cuisine.

While shrimp paste is a common ingredient in Thai curry, traditionally added during cooking, we’ve chosen to exclude it from our pastes. This decision allows us to offer a completely natural blend of fresh herbs, spices, and a pinch of salt.

The result is an authentic taste of Thailand that’s also vegan-friendly and gluten-free, making it accessible to everyone. Explore our range of Thai curry pastes to bring these vibrant flavors into your kitchen.

Recipes & Tips

Discover some of my family’s favorite recipes here, and I’d love to hear your thoughts after trying them out! I’ll be adding new recipes over time, along with helpful videos to guide you in achieving the best results.

While Thai cooking isn’t difficult, it does require a careful balance of ingredients - some of which might seem unusual together, but each plays a crucial role in creating those authentic flavors.

With respect to my Thai heritage, our recipes should transport you to local restaurants in Thailand. Each recipe is easily adaptable so you can switch up the ingredients to suit your preferences.

I can also show you how to include these pastes in dishes that are not curries, such as crab cakes, satays and BBQs.
